The University

The La Trobe University is a public university situated in Victoria, Australia. The university was established by an Act of Parliament in 1964 that approved the university status making La Trobe University the third university in Victoria. The university offers degrees through five faculties:

  • Education,
  • Humanities and Social Studies
  • Health Science,
  • Science, Technology, and Engineering,
  • Business, Economics, and Law.

 

The La Trobe University has a strong academic background and is consistently ranked high across all levels of education. The university also portrays a strong research background and is among the highest ranked research universities.

 

The PhD Scholarships: The La Trobe University Postgraduate Research Scholarships

The La Trobe University Postgraduate Research Scholarship also referred to as the LTUPRS are scholarships that are available as both masters and PhD scholarships. These PhD scholarships are intended for applicants that wish to obtain a postgraduate degree at the university. The university awards hundreds of these PhD scholarships annually for applicants that show academic merit.

Award

These scholarships award $25,392 annually to cover the cost of living as well as covers the cost of tuition fees at the domestic rate. International applicants will be responsible for any additional fees as well as their health insurance responsibilities. Additional amounts will be awarded if the recipient requires help with relocation fees as well as thesis fees. These additional fees must be approved by the university.

Duration: The scholarships last for two years when applied towards Master’s studies and last a maximum duration of three years when being applied to PhD programs.

 

Eligibility: The applicant can be either a domestic or international applicant. The university does not discriminate applicants based on their gender, sexuality, ethnicity, or nationality. The recipients are chosen based off of academic merit and their individual research potential. The applicant must have completed a Bachelor’s degree program and graduated with honours. If applicants did not receive honours they are still eligible to apply but are encouraged to supply evidence of academic merit. The applicant must show proficiency in the English language if they are international applicants coming from countries where English is not their first language. The applicant may not reapply for this scholarship. If they were previous recipients that had their award suspended or terminated for any reason they are no longer eligible for these PhD scholarships. The applicant must be enrolled in a full time study program through the La Trobe University. Applicants may be approved for part time studies but that is at the discretion of the university. It is important that applicants understand that the university will only allow part time studies when the applicant has an extreme reason not to be able to undertake full time studies. The applicant is allows to have part time employment with prior approval from the university. The applicant may not participate in more than eight hours a week of employment outside of the university.

Deadline

The deadline for these PhD scholarships is the 30th of September for international applicants and the 31st of October for domestic applicants.
