The National University of Ireland is a public university that is situated in Galway, Ireland. The National University of Ireland was established back in 1845 under the name Queen’s College Galway. The university was renamed in 1997 and sees an annual registration of over 15,000 students.

The PhD Scholarships

Understanding the Genetics of Psychosis: School of Natural Science Biochemistry

  • Description: This research project offers fully funded PhD scholarships for applicants wishing to participate in understanding the genetics of psychosis such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. The goal of the research project is to understand the impact that different mutated genes have on protein and brain function.
  • Award: These PhD scholarships are fully funded and offer full tuition fees as well as an annual allowance of 16,000.
  • Duration: These PhD scholarships are awarded for a maximum of four years.
  • Eligibility:

o   The applicant must have a Master’s degree in a relative subject or the equivalent.

o   The applicant must be ready to commence the research project the 1st of October.

o   The applicant must provide a brief statement outlining why they wish to be considered for this research project. The statement should include their reasons for undertaking their doctoral degrees and should detail all of their research experience and previous education.

o   The applicant must provide at least two letters of recommendations.

o   The applicant should supply an updated CV

Supramolecular Approach to Protein Recognition and Assembly: School of Chemistry

  • Description: This research project offers fully funded PhD scholarship to applicants wishing to undertake research to develop different methods of assembling proteins.
  • Award: These PhD scholarships are fully funded and offer full tuition fees as well as an annual allowance of 16,000.
  • Duration: These PhD scholarships are awarded for a maximum of four years.
  • Eligibility:

o   The applicant must be ready to commence studies the 1st of September.

o   The applicant must have a degree in Chemistry. Applicants that have previous summer lab experience will be given preference.

o   The applicant must provide at least two letters of recommendation

o   The applicant must provide an updated CV with any previous research experience listed

Dairy Water: The Development of Water Use and Waste Management for Dairy Processing: School of Engineering and Informatics

  • Description: This research project offers fully funded PhD scholarships to applicants wishing to undertake research in developing sustainable and effective technology that will help to reduce water waste and usage in dairy processing.
  • Award: These PhD scholarships are fully funded and offer full tuition fees as well as an annual allowance of 16,000.
  • Duration: These PhD scholarships are awarded for a maximum of four years.
  • Eligibility:

o   The applicant must be prepared to commence the project in the beginning of September.

o   The applicant must have a degree in any of the following fields:

  • Environmental Engineering
  • Environmental Science
  • Civil Engineering
  • Biochemical Engineering
  • Microbiology
  • Biotechnology

College of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences

  • Description: The College of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences at the National University of Ireland is pleased to offer four PhD scholarships available to full time applicants participating in doctoral research programs.
  • Award: These PhD scholarships are fully funded and offer full tuition fees.
  • Duration: These PhD scholarships are awarded for a maximum of four years.
  • Eligibility:

o   The applicant must have a previous degree in a related subject to nursing, health science, and or medicine.

o   The applicant must be ready to commence studies in the beginning of September.

o   The applicant must seek out their own supervisors and receive a supervisor support letter.
