The University of Hamburg is one of the largest research and education universities available in North Germany. The University of Hamburg sees an annual enrollment of over 41,000 students.

The PhD Scholarships

The University of Hamburg is pleased to announce a limited availability of their following PhD scholarships known as their Merit Scholarships for International Students. The Merit Scholarships are intended for undergraduate studies as well as being used as PhD scholarships. These PhD scholarships are awarded to international applicants with successful academic backgrounds that are willing to volunteer part of their time, usually around four hours weekly, to the University of Hamburg’s internationalized research projects.

Award: These PhD scholarships offer £650 monthly to qualified applicants.

Duration: The duration of these PhD scholarships is for a maximum duration of twelve months.

Eligibility: The applicant must be a student of international student status. This scholarships is not open for domestic students. The applicant must be in compliance with the terms of their visas at all times. These scholarships are only available to advanced semester students which means that the applicant will need to have at least two completed academic semesters at the University of Hamburg before being considered for the merit scholarship. There are age restrictions applied towards these PhD scholarship. Applicants who are pursuing an undergraduate degree or a Master’s degree must be younger than twenty nine years of age. Applicants that are wishing to apply these scholarship for doctoral studies must be younger than thirty three years of age. The applicant must meet be reviewed in order to determine if they continue to meet the academic and merit requirements for this scholarship award. Applicants applying these scholarships towards doctoral studies must have completed at least three prior academic semesters with the University of Hamburg. The applicant must volunteer a minimum of two hours a week to the University of Hamburg’s ongoing internationalized research projects. The applicant must demonstrate a successful academic background as well as demonstrate good communication skills and must be a team player. The applicant must show evidence of English language proficiency if they originate from a country where English is not their first language.

How to Apply:

The applicant has to be enrolled full time at the University of Hamburg as an international student.

Applicants must already be enrolled and have participated in a minimum of two academic semesters to be considered for this award.

It is important for the applicant to understand all the eligibility requirements associated with this award.

These scholarships will be awarded on merit need basis with periodic academic reviews to ensure that the applicant is continuing their academic success.
