6 Fully Funded International PhD Scholarships at University of Leicester UK for 2014-15

The University

The University of Leicester is a public research university located in Leicester, England. The university is renowned around the world for its top notch research. The University of Leicester is most renowned for its contributions to genetic fingerprinting as well as discovering the remains of King Richard III. The university received university status in 1957 and sees an annual enrollment of over 17,000 students.

The PhD Scholarships

The University of Leicester is pleased to announce the availability of six PhD scholarships. These six PhD scholarships are offered in a variety of different subjects. The six PhD scholarships are divided into two different categories.

Center of Sustainable Work and Employment Future

Description: The first category is of three PhD scholarships being offered by the Center of Sustainable Work and Employment Future which is a part of the College of Social Science at the University of Leicester. The goal of the Center for Sustainable Work and Employment Futures is meant to promote employment futures, and policy research. These PhD scholarships are seeking applicants to undertake research in the following areas:

  • Workplace Well Being in Private and Public Sectors
  • Ageing in the Workplace and the Inter-Generational Conflict in the Workplace
  • Young Generation’s Labour Market Transition in Context to Youth Unemployment and Insecurity
  • Finance, Ownership and Employment Relation

Award: These first three PhD scholarships are open to all applicants and will pay domestic tuition rates as well as offer a stipend of at least £ 13,726. International applicants are still eligible to apply if they can demonstrate their ability to pay the difference in tuition rates.

Duration: These scholarships last for a maximum duration of three years.

Deadline: The deadline for these PhD scholarships is the 25th of July.

Department of Biology

Description and Deadlines: The next category of PhD scholarships are three scholarships for the Department of Biology. These PhD scholarships are attached to three different research projects. The research projects are listed below:

  • Parasitic Life Cycles in Various Environments: No deadline
  • Investigation into the Genetic Basis of Natural Plant Reproductive Thermo-tolerance: The deadline is the 3rd of December.
  • Gene Networking Controlled Gamete Specification and Plant Fertility: The deadline is the 18th of December.

Award: These first three PhD scholarships are open to all applicants and will pay domestic tuition rates as well as offer a stipend of at least £ 13,726. International applicants are still eligible to apply if they can demonstrate their ability to pay the difference in tuition rates.

Requirements for All PhD Scholarships:

  • The applicant must have an upper second class or first class honours degree or the academic equivalent. The degree must be relative to the research project they have chosen to embark on.
  • The applicant must be able to communicate effectively. Applicants who don’t speak English as their first language must submit language assessment scores.
  • Theses PhD scholarships are only allowed for full time studies.
  • The applicant must compose a research proposal with summaries and outlines for their research purposes.
  • The applicant must provide at least two references
  • The applicant must submit a personal statement or essay explaining their reasons for undertaking the program that they chose.
