9 Fully Funded International PhD Scholarships at University of Surrey UK for 2014-15

The University

The University of Surrey is a pubic research university located in Surrey, England. The university received its Royal Charter in 1966. Since its establishment it has been amongst the world’s leading research universities. The University of Surrey sees an annual enrollment of over 15,700 students.

The PhD Scholarships

The University of Surrey is pleased to announce the availability of 9 PhD scholarships. These PhD scholarships are offered through a variety of different academic departments at the University of Surrey.

The Faculty of Arts and Human Science PhD Scholarships

The first five PhD scholarships are offered through the Faculty of Arts and Human Science. Each of these PhD scholarships are attached to specific research projects. The research projects for the PhD scholarships in the Faculty of Arts and Human Science are:

  • Language and Translations
  • Performing Arts
  • English Literature, Creative Writing, and English Linguistics
  • Psychology
  • Sociology, Criminology, and the Media.

The Last Four PhD Scholarships

The following four PhD scholarships are awarded through various departments at the University of Surrey. The research and their departments are listed below:

  • Economics: This is the PhD scholarship offered through the Faculty of Business, Economics, and Laws
  • Music and Sounds: This is the PhD scholarship offered through the School of Arts
  • Sound Recordings and Psychoacoustic Engineering: This is the PhD scholarship offered through the University of Surrey.
  • Politics: This is the PhD scholarship offered through the Political Science Department at the University of Surrey.

Award : Each of these PhD scholarships are all fully funded. This means that they cover the cost of tuition for the domestic student rate. International applicants are still welcome to apply however they must demonstrate the ability to pay the difference between domestic and international tuition rates. These PhD scholarships also offer a generous stipend in the amount of £13,863 annually.

Duration

These PhD scholarships last for a duration of 3 years.

Requirements for Consideration:

  • The applicant is required to have an upper second class or first class degree with honours. The applicant must have a degree in a subject area related to the research project they are hoping to become a part of.
  • Applicants must be able to communicate effectively. Applicants who do not speak English as their first language are required to submit language assessment scores such as the IELTS.
  • The applicant must provide at least two references.
  • The applicant must compose a research proposal that clearly illustrates in detail the approach the applicant projects to take while performing their research.
  • The applicant must submit a short personal statement or essay that illustrates their reasoning for wanting to undertake the research or doctorate program.
  • The applicant must provide all their previous academic transcripts as well an up to date CV or resume.
  • These positions are highly competitive and require applicants to be immensely intelligent as well as determine and motivated to get the job done. The applicants will be required to work in groups therefore it is important they are able to get along and work well in groups.
