10 Fully Funded International PhD Scholarships at University College Cork Ireland

The University

The University College Cork is an essential university of the National University Ireland. The University College Cork is situated in Cork, Ireland. The university was established in 1845 as one of the Queen’s Colleges. It was in 1908 by the authority of the Irish Universities Act that the college became the University College Cork. The university is ranked very respectably with the QS World University Rankings and has received many academic achievements. The University enrolls over 15,000 students annually.

The PhD Scholarships

The University College Cork is delighted to be able to offer 10 PhD scholarships to applicants wishing to pursue their research studies through the INSIGHT Centre for Data Analytics department with their College of Science, Engineering and Food Science. The Insight Centre is a partnered department that works with researchers from the University College Cork and a large assortment of other institutions. The centre attracts over 200 researchers from all over Ireland to help cultivate new data analytics applications and technologies.

These PhD scholarships will be available for applicants wishing to pursue research in recommender systems and optimization and decision analysis.

Recommender Systems

The recommender systems use data gathered by user preferences. Think of recommender systems in applications such as:

  • Amazon
  • YouTube
  • Facebook
  • Netflix

They take the data you input and use it to recommend things that the site believes that you will enjoy. Recommender systems work to combine all the data into research to benefit artificial intelligence, machine learning, data minding, HCI and other applications. These PhD scholarships are intended to fill places for researchers involved in relevant data research in industries using data for customer support.

  • There is only one PhD scholarships available with the recommender systems group. It covers Analytics for Customer Support with Dr. Derek Bridge.

Optimization and Decision Analysis: The optimization and decision analysis is a group of researchers that try to understand problem solving and decision making in enterprises and agencies within both the public and private sector. The goal of the research is to find a way to relate the data to make more informed decisions.

  • 3 PhD Scholarships in Distributed and Strategy-Aware Decision Analytics with Dr. Ken Brown and Professor Barry O’Sullivan
  • 3 PhD Scholarships in Decision Analytics and Computational Social Choices with Dr. Nic Wilson and Dr. Ken Brown
  • 2 PhD Scholarships in Constraint and Optimization with Professor Barry O’Sullivan
  • 1 PhD Scholarship in Decision Analytics and Incomplete or Evolving Problems with Professor Gregory Provan

 

Award

Theses PhD scholarships will offer €5,770 for tuition fees annually as well as a yearly stipend of €18,000.

Duration

These PhD scholarships cover a maximum duration of four years.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants may be domestic or international. All nationalities are welcome to apply.
  • Applicants must hold a master’s degree in a mathematical related area. A degree in computer science is desired.
  • The applicant must be able to understand and be interested in software engineering with an understanding of artificial intelligence, algorithms, and other related subjects.

Applicants that are wishing to apply must submit all the appropriate documentation to the University College Cork in PDF format. Their applicants should include:

  • All previous academic transcripts
  • 300 word personal statement detailing research interests
  • 3 one page abstracts from undergraduate projects, MSc projects, and any relevant work or research experience if applicable.
