Plymouth University is a public university located in Plymouth, England. The Plymouth University is amongst the top ten largest universities population wise in the United Kingdom. The main campus is situated within Devon while the universities holds campuses throughout South West England. The university received its name in 2011 formally being called the University of Plymouth. The university sees an annual enrollment of over 28,600 applicants.

The 4 PhD Scholarships

There are many PhD scholarships available at the Plymouth University. Currently, the university is providing four PhD scholarships for two of their academic departments. Those academic departments are:

  • The Faculty of Science and Technology: 3 PhD Scholarships
  • The School of Marine Science and Engineering: 1 PhD Scholarship

The Research Projects and Their PhD Scholarship Deadlines

Each of these scholarships is attached to an ongoing research project being conducted at the Plymouth University. Those research projects are:

The Faculty of Science and Technology:

  1. The Science and Technology Associated with Autonomous Social Robots: The deadline for this PhD scholarship is the 28th of July.
  2. Psychological Investigations Associated with the THRIVE Project: The deadline for this scholarship is the 29th of August.
  3. Robotic Modelling of Trust in Robot-Human Interactions: The deadline for this scholarship is the 29th of August.

The School of Marine Science and Engineering: The Usage of Telemetry Data to Understand the Developing of Foraging Behaviors in Grey Seal Pups in Relation to Oceanography and Potential Disturbances: The deadline for this scholarship is the 8th of August.

PhD Scholarship Awards

Each of these PhD scholarships are fully funded. They cover tuition fees at the domestic rate as well as provide a stipend in the amount of £13,863 annually. International applicants are still eligible to apply if they can demonstrate their ability to cover the difference between the domestic and the international tuition rates.

Duration of the PhD Scholarships

These PhD scholarships are intended to last for a duration of 3.5 years in full time studies.

Requirements for PhD Scholarship Consideration:

  • The applicant must have an upper second class or first class honours degree or a master degree in a relative subject to the area of interest they are pursuing.
  • The applicant must be able to communicate efficiently. Applicants that come from countries where English is not their native language will be asked to submit language assessment scores such as the TOEFL or the IELTS.
  • The applicant must write a composed research proposal for doctoral studies. The research proposal should be clear with a well thought out hypothesis as well as a detailed research outline. There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind what your research is about after reading your research proposal.
  • The applicant will have to compose a short personal statement or essay illustrating why they have chosen their area or interest as well as any personal obstacles they have had to overcome in order to pursue their doctoral education.
  • The applicant must provide at least two professional or academic references.
