The PhD Scholarships Program

The Singapore International Graduate Awards or SINGA are a collection of 240 PhD scholarships presented to international students with excellent academic backgrounds and are ready to commence their doctorate studies. The SINGA represents a partnerships between the Nanyang Technological University, the Agency for Science, Technology, and Research, the Singapore University of Technology and Design, and the National University of Singapore. Successful applicants will begin their doctoral training at one of the above lab facilities.

Value

These PhD scholarships grant an annual stipend of SGD 24,000 that will increase to a total of SGD 30,000 after the applicant passes the required qualifying examinations. These awards also cover the full cost of tuition for international applicants. Applicants are also eligible for a one time relocation allowance of SGD 1,000 as well as a one-time airfare allowance of SGD 1,500.

Duration

These PhD scholarships are awarded for a maximum of four years.

Eligibility: The applicant must supply evidence of a strong academic background. Any and all prior research publications should be summited to supplement academic requirements. Previous research work experience may also be used to supplement academic requirements. These scholarships are open to international students. The applicant must be in compliance with the requirements of their visas at all times during the duration of their degree programs. The applicant must have a strong understanding of English. All coursework will be completed in English. Each applicant is required to interview before being selected for these scholarships. The selection panel will determine how well the applicant understands and executes the English language. Additional test scores might be required. The applicant must supply at least two letters of recommendation from academic scholars. The applicant needs to be motivated and needs to strive for excellence. Successful recipients of the SINGA are not allowed to obtain additional scholarships. These scholarships are intended for full time studies in a doctoral program. The applicant is not permitted to seek part time work in addition to their coursework at the school. The SINGA is intended to provide all financial means for successful candidates. The applicant will have to submit to an interview before being awarded one of these PhD scholarships. The applicant is encourage to prepare a personal statement illustrating why they believe they are deserving of the scholarship as well as their intentions on undertaking studies in Singapore. The applicant should have a research proposal ready. Applicants are encouraged to review ongoing research projects at their facility of choice. If the applicant cannot find a program that fits their specific needs the university encourages these applicants to propose their own research project. The university will take all research proposals seriously and a thorough research proposal is mandatory.

Applicants are encouraged to apply for these scholarships using the online registration option. Applicants must make sure that they indicated that they are applying for the SINGA awards.

The applicant is responsible for ensuring the schools get the appropriate documentation. This includes passport information and pictures, previous academic transcripts, and copies of diplomas.

Ensure that all information is correct because once the application is submitted it cannot be amended.

Candidates that are successful will be short listed and contacted within a 10 week period after the application deadline for interviews.

The deadline for these scholarships is the 1st of June.
