85 PhD Scholarships and Fellowships at Foscari University of Venice Italy for 2014-15

The University

The Foscari University of Venice is a public university situated in Venice, Italy. The school was granted university status in 1968. The university is housed inside of an old Venetian palace that the university derives its name from. The Foscari University of Venice has eight academic departments and enrolls over 19,000 students annually.

The Foscari University of Venice is pleased to be able to offer 85 PhD scholarships to eligible candidates. The PhD scholarships are available in the following doctoral degree programs:

  • Environmental Science
  • Economics
  • Law
  • Management
  • Computer Science
  • Italian Studies
  • Modern Linguistics, Societies, and Cultures
  • Science and Management of Climate Changes
  • Philosophy and Educational Sciences
  • History of Art
  • Ancient Heritages
  • Asian and African Studies

Value

The value of these PhD scholarships is €13,638.47 annually to be divided into equal monthly instalments.

Duration

The duration of these PhD scholarships is a maximum of three years. After the first year of the scholarship ends the student will be evaluated to access academic progress. Once applicants are evaluated successfully the scholarship may be extended for the maximum three years.

Eligibility

It is important for applicants to note that each individual program has their own personal set of requirements in addition to the overall requirements.

  • Applicants have to have accepted a place of study with the university in a full time doctoral program
  • Applicants will be reviewed based off of academic history. Prior transcripts and diplomas awarded to the candidate will be taken into consideration. Academic publications offering the candidate credit will also be taken into consideration.
  • Applicants are required to present a clear research proposal that illustrates their research topics and what they predict the outcome will be
  • Applicants of international status must be in compliance with the terms of their visas at all times.
  • Applicants will be interviewed before being admitted into the doctoral programs. International students are required to conduct their interviews over Skype. The times and dates are at the discretion of the selection committee.
  • Applicants are required to have a basic understanding of the English language. Understanding of the Italian language is not required but is beneficial.
  • Applicants are required to produce a thesis abstract with an average of 10,000 words.
  • Applicants are required to have at least two letters of recommendation from academic scholars.

How to Apply

The applicant must first apply online at the Foscari University of Venice website once this step is successfully executed the applicant will receive their individual password and username to access their information. Applicants should also note that they will receive individual emails with a unique code associate with a successfully completed application.

All prior publications and academic diplomas and transcripts must be converted into a PDF format for easy viewing. Applicants will have to provide the names and email addresses of the scholars they wish to receive recommendations from. The university will send further instructions to the email addresses provided for the recommendations.

All information and publications must be translated into either Italian or English.

All applications and additional information will be reviewed by the university. Once the applicant has been enrolled in the university they will be assessed for the scholarships. Successful applicants will be shortlisted and interviewed before receiving the scholarship.

Deadline

The deadline for these PhD scholarships is the 29th of May.
