DBU PhD Scholarships at German Federal Environmental Foundation for 2014-15

The Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) also frequently known as the German Federal Environmental Foundation is one of Europe’s foremost foundations and encourages innovative developments with the environment. The DBU was created in 1990 and is a foundation for the Federal Republic of Germany. The objective of the German Federal Environmental Foundation is to inspire activities that focus on the environment.

PhD Scholarships

The German Federal Environmental Foundation is pleased to announce the availability to their DBU Doctoral Scholarships. These PhD scholarships are awarded to candidates that are participating in research to promote environmental safety and protection. The Foundation funds up to 60 PhD scholarships annually.

Value

These scholarships award a monthly allowance of a minimum of €940. An additional allowance of €200 can be awarded to help contribute to the cost of travel and materials. Recipients with children are eligible to receive a child credit in the amount of €200 for the first child and an additional allowance of €150 for each additional child.

Duration

These scholarships are awarded for a maximum duration of three years. The scholarship recipient is reviewed after completing their first year of studies. It adequate progress is being made then the scholarship will be renewed for the additional two years.

Eligibility: The applicant must not have commenced their doctoral thesis. The applicant must have a strong understanding of the German language. Candidates are expected to integrate themselves into the society around them as well as integrate themselves into the school’s network. The applicant must present excellent previous academic marks. The applicant must provide a research proposal that illustrates ways to best contribute to preserving the environment and solving existing issues presented with environmental protection and environmental conservation. The application must be written in the German language. The DBU welcomes international students. Applicants should be advised that the majority of the research work is done in Germany as well as in the German language. Applicants will be working mainly on environmental situations presented in Germany. Applicants from a large variety of departments are welcome to apply for these positions. All environmental problems are welcome for research. Applicants with degrees in engineering, natural sciences, social services, economics and law, and humanities are all encouraged to apply for positions.

How to Apply

If an applicant meets the above requirements they are then encouraged to apply for these DBU scholarships.

The applicant must enroll in the DBU program. The applications are only available in German. The applications are available for a limited amount of time before the enrollment periods which are the 15th of January and the 15th of June. The registration menu is active for a few weeks before these dates before going inactive so it is important to ensure that the applicant completes their registration application before the due date.

It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the foundation receives all the appropriate documentation. The Foundation requires that you sent all the documents, consent forms, and your individual reference number by regular mail after you have completed the online application.

Deadlines

The deadline for applications to this scholarship are the 15th of June.
