The University

London South Bank University or LSBU, formally known as the Borough Polytechnic Institute, is a public university based out of Southwark, London, United Kingdom.

The university is stationed close to the South Bank of the River Thames, which is how the university derives its name from. The university saw its start as the Borough Polytechnic Institute back in 1892 with the goal to help promote industrial skills, as well as the health and knowledge of the general public. The main goal of the university is to be able to produce in demand graduates that are prepared to meet the challenges of today’s thriving workplace.

PhD Scholarships: Vice Chancellor Scholarship

The London South Bank University understands the complications that students must overcome when searching for means to fund their postgraduate educations. This is why the university is pleased to offer a limited amount of PhD scholarships known as their Vice Chancellor’s Scholarships.

Value

The Vice Chancellor’s Scholarships are a series of PhD scholarships that award over £48,000 annually in PhD scholarships to qualifying applicants. All applicants regardless of student status are invited to apply for the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship program.

Examples: The following are examples of some of the scholarships that are included under the Vice Chancellor Scholarship umbrella:

  • The Excellence Award: this award provides a full tuition fee waiver to any postgraduate study programme at the university as well as an additional stipend of £1,000. The selection criteria is academic based.
  • Merit Award: this award provides £1,000 bursary with an extra bursary of £1,000 upon graduating from your postgraduate programme with academic merit. Recipients must show progressive academic accomplishment.
  • Research Award: this award provides a bursary worth £1,000. This award is presented to applicants starting a professional doctorate or MPhil degree programme at London South Bank University.
  • Community Award: this award provides a bursary worth £1,000. Applicants are required to show evidence of contributions to communities surrounding the university. Recipients have to be directly involved in projects to benefit the surrounding communities.

Duration: These scholarships last for the duration of whatever program they are being applied to regardless of full time or part time status

Eligibility

  • These scholarships can be applied to any postgraduate study programme offered at the university.
  • The applicant must have accepted a place of study at the London South Bank University
  • Applicants can be either domestic or international students.
  • Each scholarship may have additional eligibility requirements. Some of the Vice Chancellor Scholarships are intended for those of academic merit while others might be based on a more financial need basis. The scholarship committee will review all eligibility requirements and award applicants with the scholarship that is going to be meet their individual needs.
  • The applicant must show proficiency in the English language. Test scores will be mandatory for international applicants that are coming from countries where English is not their first language.
  • International applicants must maintain compliance with their visa requirements at all times during the duration of their degree programmes.
  • The applicant is required to submit a personal statement illustrating why they believe that they are more deserving of these PhD scholarships.

How to Apply

The applicant must complete an enrollment application for the university as well as an enrollment application for the scholarships. The applicant should state that they wish to be considered for one of the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarships.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the university receives all of the appropriate documentation to render an informed decision.

The scholarship committee will review each applicant independently and if they meet all of the requirements then the committee will award the applicant with the PhD scholarship that they believe will most benefit the applicant. Only one Vice Chancellor Scholarship award will be given to applicants.

Deadline

The deadline for these scholarships is the 28th of June.
