The University

The Birmingham City University formerly known as both the Birmingham Polytechnic as well as the University of Central England Birmingham is a public university sited in Birmingham, England. It is amongst the largest universities in the city of Birmingham and was founded back in 1843. The Birmingham City University in 1992, achieved university status.

The Birmingham City University is comprised of seven diverse campuses that offer a variation of different degree programs.

The PhD Scholarships: Graduate Teaching Assistants

The Birmingham City University is contented to offer a limited availability of their PhD scholarships in the form of graduate teaching assistant positions. The Birmingham City University’s Faculty of Health is offering six full time PhD scholarships referred to as their PhD Graduate Teaching Assistantships or GTA’s.

Amount

The Faculty of Health at the Birmingham City University is offering six teaching assistant positions to qualifying applicants that will each pay the full tuition rate for domestic students as well as provide a stipend to cover student expenses. The annual amount for the stipend is £13,863.

Duration

The maximum duration of these Graduate Teaching Assistant programs is three years in a full time PhD program.

Eligibility: At this time the PhD scholarships or GTA’s are offered only to domestic or EU applicants. International applicants are not currently eligible for this award. The applicant must be a student at the Birmingham City University in a full time PhD program provided by the university. The applicants must be working towards a degree from the Faculty of Health. The applicant must demonstrate a level of commitment and skills. They must be able to contribute to the projects that they are assigned to. Additional skills also include exceptional communication skills. The applicant must be proficient in the English language. Applicants must show English language proficiency both in spoken and written English. The applicants must have previously obtained a master’s degree. The applicants must contribute a minimum of six hours weekly to teaching assistant duties.

How to Apply

The six PhD scholarships are attached to six different research projects. The following is a list of the six research projects that successful applicants will be required to help work on:

1. Risk Factors for Vocal Complications in Teachers
2. The Impact of High Levels of Glucose in Human Cardiac Endothelial Cells.
3. Parenting Twins or Triplets- The First Five Years
4. The Impact of Opioids on Hormone Regulation and Bone Density
5. The Extent of Health Trainer Interventions and the Impact they have on Reducing Cardiovascular Risk
6. The Extent of off hours Hospital Admission and the Burden of Case Management and Hospital Admittance Timing.
