The University of Southampton is a public research university situated in Southampton, England. The University of Southampton was the founding member of the Russell Group which is a group of prestigious research universities. PhD Scholarships

PGR Scholarship Fund: The PGR Scholarship Fund are newly instituted PhD scholarships that are open to students with strong academic backgrounds. The University of Southampton is prepared to offer 100 new PhD scholarships every year to the most deserving of students regardless of where they are from. By instituting this new PhD scholarship the university is increasing its number of prospective research candidates as well as widening its diversity.

Value

The PGR Scholarships will receive an allowance of £7,000 annually. Recipients of the PGR Scholarships are allowed to combine the PGR scholarships with additional scholarships and funding.

Duration

The duration of the PGR Scholarships last for a maximum of three years in a full time setting. The scholarship can be adjusted for part time students with permission from the university.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must accept a place of study from the University of Southampton meeting all of the general requirements needed for entry into their specific degree program.
  • Applicants should be mindful that different programs require different admissions requirements and applicants should understand that they are responsible for fulfilling all admission requirements.
  • Applicants must have strong academic backgrounds. All past diplomas and transcripts will be assessed as well as any prior research publications.
  • Practical experience and relative work history within an applicant’s degree field is not mandatory but will increase an applicant’s chances by showing the university evidence of research potential and interest.
  • International students must be in compliance with the terms of their visas at all times
  • All applicants are required to show proficiency in the English language.

Deadline:The deadline depends on the department of research that the scholarship is being applied to. Some departments do not require deadlines.

PhD Studentships: The University of Southampton offers over 100 fully funded PhD Studentships annually to postgraduate students in a variety of subjects. (including Science, Law, Engineering  and Environment, Archaeology, English, History, Modern Languages, Health Sciences, Medicine, Natural and Environmental Sciences,Physical Sciences and Engineering and Social and Human Sciences)

Value: Studentships cover the cost of tuition as well as offer either a stipend or a salary depending on the studentship the recipient has received. The 100 PhD Studentships offer a generous research salary as well as great pension and health benefits. The monetary amounts for each studentship is dependent on the academic department the studentship originated from.

  • The first thing an applicant should do when interested in taking up a PhD studentship is to check for vacancies. Studentships are numbered and spots are not always made available on projects.
