The Deakin University

Deakin University is a public university based in Victoria, Australia. The university is composed of three different campuses located in Melbourne, Geelong, and Warrnambool. Deakin University is well known for focusing on student culture, being accessible, friendly, and helpful, as well as delivering innovative courses paired with excellent teaching methods. The university sees an annual enrollment of over 47,000 students.

The 5 PhD Scholarships

Deakin University is pleased to announce the availability of 5 PhD scholarships. These five PhD scholarships are offered through two different departments offered at the Deakin University the Centre of Integrative Ecology and the Institute for Frontier Materials. Each of these PhD scholarships is linked to an individual research project. The research projects are listed below.

The Centre of Integrated Ecology: Research Projects and Deadlines

  • A Global Climate Perspective, Allen’s Rule and the Evolution of the Bird Beak: The deadline for domestic applicants is the 31st of October. The deadline for international applicants is the 14th of July.
  • Evolution of Harem Polygyny in Insect: The deadline for domestic applicants is the 31st of October. The deadline for international applicants is the 14th of July.
  • Evolution of Diverse Insect Pheromones: The deadline for domestic applicants is the 31st of October. The deadline for international applicants is the 14th of July.
  • Using Phylogeny to Help Predict Medicinal Utilities of Basal Angiosperms: The deadline for domestic applicants is the 31st of October. The deadline for international applicants is the 14th of July.

Institute for Frontier Materials: Research Project and Deadline

  • Molecular Simulations of Interfaces in Carbon-Fiber Materials: Applications are accepted throughout the entire year.

Award

Each of these PhD scholarships are fully funded PhD scholarships. This means that the scholarships will cover the domestic tuition rates. International applicants are still welcome to apply if they are able to demonstrate the ability to cover the difference between domestic and international tuition rates. The scholarships also offer stipends in the amount of £13,726 annually.

Duration

These PhD scholarships last for a duration of 3.5 years.

Requirements for Consideration:

  • The applicant must have an upper second class or first class honours degree in a relative subject to the research project that they are wishing to be considered for.
  • Applicant have to be able to communicate effectively. Applicants who do not speak English as their first language they are required to provide language assessment scores.
  • Applicants are required to submit research proposals clearly illustrating and outlining their research intentions.
  • The applicant must provide all previous academic transcripts and must have research experience in the research area that they are interested in pursuing.
  • Applicant must provide at least two reference.
  • Applicants are required to submit a personal statement or essay illustrating their reasons for pursing these degree programs.
  • The applicant must have accepted a place of study at the Deakin University.
  • The applicants must provide an up to date CV or resume that illustrate their previous academic training as well as any previous research experience they have acquired.
