The University of St. Mark and St. John is an independent Church of England university located in Plymouth, United Kingdom. The university was established in 1923 following the merger of the St. Mark College and the St. John College. The University of St. Mark and St. John is a single campus institute that holds prestigious rankings around the world. The University of St. Mark and St. John sees an annual enrollment of over 5000 students.

The PhD Scholarships

There are many PhD scholarship opportunities available through the University of St. Mark and St. John. Currently, the University of St. Mark and St. John is offering 6 Graduate Assistant Studentships to be put towards a research project. The applicants are allowed to pick their own research interest from a list devices from three different academic departments at the University of St. Mark and St. John.

  1. The Faculty of Education and Social Science
  2. The Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences
  3. The Faculty of Language and Creative Industries.

It is from among these three faculties that the university has designed an additional list that has taken the above three faculties and has divided them each into eight different research interests that recipients of these PhD scholarships are allowed to choose from.

The Faculty of Language and Creative Industries: 1. Applied Language Science 2. Music, Sounds, and Digital Application

Award

These PhD scholarships provide a funded tuition and a generous bursary in the amount of £8,500 for applicants that demonstrate outstanding academic progress and contributions. Applicants will also receive opportunities to attend conferences that will be fully funded as well as networking opportunities.

Duration

These PhD scholarships are intended to last solely for one year.

Requirements:

The applicant must have an upper second class or first class honours degree or a master degree in a relative subject to the area of interest they are pursuing.

  • The applicant must be able to communicate efficiently. Applicants that come from countries where English is not their native language will be asked to submit language assessment scores such as the TOEFL or the IELTS.
  • The applicant must write a composed research proposal for doctoral studies. The research proposal should be clear with a well thought out hypothesis as well as a detailed research outline. There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind what your research is about after reading your research proposal.
  • The applicant will have to compose a short personal statement or essay illustrating why they have chosen their area or interest as well as any personal obstacles they have had to overcome in order to pursue their doctoral education.
  • The applicant must allow the university access to all their previous academic transcripts as well as provide the university with an up to date CV illustrating all of their academic and research experience.
