The University of Derby

Formerly called the Derby College of Art and Technology, the University of Derby is a university located in Derby City, England. Despite taking the university 141 years befor formally gaining its university status, it is notable for the personal touch it provides for its students’ education. This is done through the academe’s small classes, tutors and student-friendly atmosphere. There is only about 30 students per class which facilitates a comprehensive interaction between professors and students. The University of Derby has a total of 11 colleges specifically:

Derby College, one of its informal names, not only provides education in classrooms but also teaches students online through a variety of courses. The university founded the Corporate B2B Division that allows the college to engage in regional business. This is one of the many initiatives that Derby College has set up to increase the employability of its graduates.

The PhD Scholarships

PhD Scholarship Summary: As of the moment, there are only 11 PhD scholarships offered at the University of Derby. All of them targets self-funded applicants who can not only cover his or her own tuition fees but can also keep up with the demands of the program and thrive in the community. International students are welcome to apply providing they take note of the difference in tuition fee and willing to cover it.

PhD Scholarship Grants: Since the PhD scholarships are only for self-funded students, the department will not be covering the tuition fees for the entire course. There is also no stipend provided every year. Successful applicants are expected to have already settled their external funding before the start of the course. The university may send some studentships or demonstrations their way in order to help with the expenses.

  • Duly-filled RD02 MPhil-PhD by Thesis Application Form
  • Transcripts and Degree certificate
  • Copy of the applicant’s passport
  • IELTS certificate within the past 2 years

Scholarship Deadlines

All of the self-funded PhD scholarships listed above take applicants all throughout the year. The department takes considerable time in reviewing applications to ensure that they only accept quality candidates so there is no definite date as to when the vacant positions will be filled. Some of the scholarships start on the month of September so it is best to submit applications as soon as possible.
