7 Fully Funded International PhD Scholarships at University of Oxford UK for 2014-15

The University

The University of Oxford is a research university situated in Oxford, England. The university is one of the oldest in the world tracing its origins back to sometime around 1096. The university become prevalent when in 1167 Henry II banned all English college students from attending University of Paris. The University of Oxford sees an annual enrollment of over 21,500 students.

The PhD Scholarships

The University of Oxford is pleased to announce the availability of seven PhD scholarships. These seven PhD scholarships are offered across three different academic departments at the University of Oxford. The departments are the departments of:

  • Chemistry
  • Engineering Science
  • Zoology

Research Projects

Each of these PhD scholarships are linked to a PhD research project.

  • Complex Synthetic Mimic of Cell Membranes: This is the research project offered by the Department of Chemistry.
  • Computer Visions and Machine Learning: This is the research project offered by the Department of Engineering Science.

The next five PhD scholarships are all offered by the Department of Zoology at the University of Oxford. The research projects are the following:

  1. Evolutionary Biology for Sex and Aging
  2. The Hydrodynamic of Fish and their Adaption to Extreme Flows
  3. Sense and Sensibility: Multisensory Object Recognition in Electric Fish
  4. Spatial Ecology and Navigation in Wide Range Birds
  5. Evolutionary Ecology in Dynamic Environment

Award: Each of these PhD scholarships are all fully funded. This means that they cover the cost of tuition for the domestic student rate. International applicants are still welcome to apply however they must demonstrate the ability to pay the difference between domestic and international tuition rates. These PhD scholarships also offer a generous stipend in the amount of £13,863 annually.

Duration: These PhD scholarships last for a duration of 3.5 years.

Requirements for Consideration:

  • The applicant is required to have an upper second class or first class degree with honours. The applicant must have a degree in a subject area related to the research project they are hoping to become a part of.
  • Applicants must be able to communicate effectively. Applicants who do not speak English as their first language are required to submit language assessment scores such as the IELTS.
  • The applicant must provide at least three references.
  • The applicant must compose a research proposal that clearly illustrates in detail the approach the applicant projects to take while performing their research.
  • The applicant must submit a short personal statement or essay that illustrates their reasoning for wanting to undertake the research or doctorate program.
  • The applicant must provide all their previous academic transcripts as well an up to date CV or resume.
  • These positions are highly competitive and require applicants to be immensely intelligent as well as determine and motivated to get the job done. The applicants will be required to work in groups therefore it is important they are able to get along and work well in groups.

Deadline:

These PhD scholarships accept applications throughout the year but commence studies in October.
