The University of Kiel

The University of Kiel is an open research university sited in Kiel, Germany. The university was established in 1665 and is amongst the oldest and largest populated universities in Germany. The university is composed of over eight different and unique academic faculties. These faculties are listed below:

The PhD Scholarships

There are many PhD scholarships available at the University of Kiel. The Graduate School of Human Development in Landscapes is a graduate research school provided by the University of Kiel. Annually, this graduate school admits 11 new doctorate students in which 4 of these positions are awarded PhD scholarships.

Research Intent

The intent of these four PhD scholarships for the Graduate School of Human Development in Landscapes is to provide access to a unique research atmosphere that works with faculties in humanities, social and natural sciences. The research conducted in this graduate school work to examine the interactions between social and physical landscapes and learn how different landscapes work to serve dynamic arenas that change human interactions and activities in different times and spaces. Studies in this graduate school take into consideration the:

·       Social relationships

·       The environment

·       Population dynamics

·       Subsistence

·       Human perception

·       Material culture

The studies takes all of the above and demonstrates the change that it has on landscapes and societies.

Award

The PhD scholarships award up to €1,450 monthly salary.

Duration

The PhD scholarships are set for a fixed duration of two years with the potential to extend to a third and final year.

Requirements:

·       The applicant needs to have an upper second class or a first class honours degree or a master’s degree related to the ongoing theme of human development in landscapes

·       The applicant needs to be able to converse professionally. Applicants that are travelling from countries where English is not their primary language will be requested to submit English language valuation scores. The TOEFL or the IELTS are satisfactory for this request.

·       These are highly motivated and competitive positions. Applicants must demonstrate that they can work effectively in a team setting as well as an independent source.

  • The applicant must comprise a research offer that clearly demonstrates in detail the approach the applicant projects to take while performing their research. This includes having a clear outline and hypothesis.
  • The applicant must compose a short personal declaration or composition that demonstrates their motivation for wanting to commence their research or doctorate program.
  • The applicant must deliver all their preceding academic records as well an updated CV or resume.
  • The applicant must supply two references. These references needed to be academic sources from positions relevant to the subject theme.

Deadline

The deadline for these PhD scholarships is the 31st of August. Applicants are required to submit their applications online for consideration.
