The University of Bristol is a public research university situated in Bristol, United Kingdom. The university gained university status by Royal Charter in 1909 and has consistently been amongst the highest ranking universities in the world. The university boasts a long history and was the first university in the country to allow female applicants to be admitted on the same basis as male applicants. The university is highly competitive research university and admits a select number of students annually.

University of Bristol Postgraduate Research Scholarships

The University of Bristol is pleased to offer a number of Postgraduate Research Scholarships. The University of Bristol Postgraduate Research Scholarships are postgraduate or PhD scholarships that are available to international and domestic students to be applied towards a full time postgraduate research program at the University of Bristol. These PhD scholarships are awarded on an academic merit basis.

 

Value

The Postgraduate Research Scholarship awards recipients with an annual stipend of £13,726 as well as pays for tuition fees at the domestic rate. International students will be responsible for covering the additional tuition fees. The payments for the stipend are made every 1st of January, April, July and October. Special accommodations are made for students seeking maternity leave during the duration of these PhD scholarships. Female applicants are allowed an academic suspension due to maternity leave for a duration of six months. During those six months the stipend will be lowered to £8,863.

Duration

The duration of these PhD scholarships is a maximum of three years.

Eligibility: The applicant may be of either domestic or international student status. Applicants will be accepted regardless of race, gender, or country of origin. The Postgraduate Research Scholarships are intended for applicants commencing studies at the University of Bristol. Applicants that have already started their postgraduate studies at the university are not eligible for this award. To be considered for the Postgraduate Research Scholarships a minimum of 50% of the applicants total funding or their tuition fees and stipends must be funded from the university. Applicants must be proficient in the English language. The applicant must be prepared to present a research proposal for their research degree. Applicants must comply with all additional requirements demanded by the individual research departments for which they are applying for.

How to Apply

The applicant must first apply to the university and be offered a place of study at the University of Bristol. Applications for admission can be found on the school’s main website. Applicants are required to indicate their interest in the Postgraduate Research Scholarship when completing their applications.

Applicants are responsible for ensuring that the university receives all required documentation. This includes prior academic transcripts as well as presenting a research proposal and a personal statement indicating why they should be awarded these scholarships. Applicants that are finishing an undergraduate or Master’s degree should let the university know. The university will wait for the results of the degree before making a decision about the scholarship.
