International Students Academic Merit Scholarships at East Tennessee State University USA

The University

East Tennessee State University also recognized as ETSU is an American public university sited in Johnson City, Tennessee. The ETSU has continuously grown over the past 100 years to include over 4 campuses and 11 colleges including some of the following:

  • Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy
  • College of Nursing
  • College of Public Health
  • College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Science.

The university is one of the nation’s largest institutes for public education and is the fourth largest university in Tennessee. ETSU enrolls over 15,000 students annually.

The PhD Scholarships: International Students Academic Merit Scholarship

The East Tennessee State University is pleased to offer a limited number of their International Student Academic Merit Scholarships. These scholarships are intended for international candidates working towards an undergraduate or postgraduate degree for the first time. The International Students Academic Merit Scholarship is only available for use at East Tennessee State University.

Value

The International Students Academic Merit Scholarship pays for 50% of the cost of both domestic and international tuition fees.

Duration

The tenure for these scholarships are:

  • For recipients apply these scholarships for undergraduate work the tenure of the scholarship is for a maximum duration of 8 academic semesters or for the duration of their undergraduate program.
  • For recipients applying these scholarships as Master’s scholarships the tenure is 5 academic semesters or for the duration of the Master’s program.
  • For recipients applying these scholarships as PhD scholarships the tenure is 8 academic semesters or for the duration of the PhD program.
  • These Master’s and PhD scholarships can be applied towards summer academic semesters.

Eligibility: The applicants must be enrolled at the university in a full time academic program. Applicants must have already been admitted to the university before their applications will even be reviewed. The applicants must have obtained an appropriate visa and be in compliance with their visa requirements at all times. The applicants must have a history of academic success. Applicants must submit at least two academic recommendations. Applicants should note that personal recommendations such as from family or old sports coaches are not acceptable. Recommendations must be made from academic sources such as teachers or professors. Applicants are required to uphold full time study status regardless of whether they are applying for Master’s Scholarships or PhD scholarships. Applicants must keep a GPA of at least 2.75 during the duration of the scholarship for undergraduates. Postgraduates must keep a minimum of 3.0. Applicants who are receiving other PhD scholarships or postgraduate assistantships or scholarships for tuition are not suitable to apply for this scholarship. Applicants are responsible for securing alternative funds to pay for the rest of their tuition as well as any additional maintenance fees, medical insurance, and living allowances. Students applying for an MD doctoral program are not eligible for these scholarships.

How to Apply

Applicants must complete an enrollment application and be awarded an offer to study before they will be considered for the scholarship program. They are encouraged to include their scholarships application along with their application for enrollment.

The applicant is responsible for ensuring that the school receives all the appropriate documentation needed. These awards are based on international academic merit and will be awarded to candidates that best meet the requirements.

Deadline

The deadline for the autumn semester is the 1st of July. The deadline for the spring semester is the 1st of October.
