Victoria Doctoral Scholarships
The Victoria University of Wellington is pleased to offer 35 PhD scholarships called the Victoria Doctoral Scholarships. The PhD scholarships can be applied to any doctoral degree program available at the university. The focus of these PhD scholarships is to promote research studies at the university. These PhD scholarships are presented to applicants that show academic excellence and research potential. The Victoria Doctoral Scholarships is available to both domestic and international students.
Applicants should note that are a requirement for this scholarship the recipient is expected to contribute at least 150 hours a year to academic life at the university. This requirement is meant to show recipients what all goes into making a successful university as well as a successful graduate. It shows recipients a unique insight into the work that is assumed and the expectations that are placed on the academic community at the school. These contributions can be time spent tutoring, as a research assistant, as a laboratory supervisor or demonstrator, or as a teaching assistant.
Value
These PhD scholarships offer an annual stipend in the amount of $23,500 as well as covers the cost of tuition fees.
Duration
These scholarships last for a maximum of three years. Students that receive the award but are already enrolled in a doctoral program for over three months will have the duration of the scholarship reduced. The decision to reduce the scholarships is at the discretion of the scholarships committee.
Eligibility
· The applicant must have accepted a place to study in a full time doctoral program with the university.
· The applicant must meet all requirements for this scholarship including dedicating 150 hours annually to academic life.
· The applicant must show proficiency in the English language
· The applicant must have a background of academic success. Previous transcripts and diplomas are required.
· Applicants are allowed to undertake part time employment with the approval of the university. The applicant should not exceed 400 hours annually in part time employment. Recipients are expected to devote the majority of their time to academic life as well as their own academics.
· Recipients of these doctoral scholarships are not allowed to hold additional rewards without the approval of the scholarship committee.
How to Apply
Applicants must fill out applications for doctoral positions at the university. Once the applicant has successfully acquired an offer of study from the university they are able to fill out a scholarship application form.
Applications will be assessed by the university’s research scholarship committee and it will be the committee that shortlists candidates as well as decides who receives the awards.
Applicants should start receiving offers for scholarships beginning six weeks after the deadlines. It is important that applicants make sure that they provide very clear and correct email addresses as the university will notify recipients through email.
Deadline
The upcoming deadline for the Victoria Doctoral Scholarships is the 1st of July. The scholarships are considered three times a years with the deadlines being the 1st of March, July, and November.
