The University of Trento is an Italian public university located in Trento. The university specializes in research, international relations. They are among the three main concentrations of the university. The university was established in 1962 as an institute for social sciences. It was the first Italian facility for sociology.
7 PhD Scholarships
The University of Trento is pleased to announce the availability of 7 PhD scholarships for their PhD Programme in International Studies. The programme calls for interdisciplinary approaches to provide grounding in core disciplines of international studies which are focused mainly on law, sociology, politics, and economics. The goal of these PhD scholarships is to attract high quality research candidates to the university. The seven PhD scholarships are broken down into the four following areas:
- 4 scholarships funded by the university
- 1 scholarship funded through the Autonomous Province of Trento
- 1 specific project scholarship funded through the Foundation Bruno Kessler. The project must be related to Conflict Resolution and International Politics
- 1 specific project scholarship funded through the European commission. The project needs to be focused on health and security.
Value
These scholarships award a yearly allowance of € 13.638,47.
Duration
The duration of these PhD scholarships are for three years in a full time study program.
Eligibility: The applicant must hold a Master’s degree relevant to international studies such as economics, law, sociology, humanities, political science, history, or philosophy. The applicant should prepare to present both a research proposal as well as a statement illustrating why they deserve to be awarded the scholarship and what they are hoping to accomplish. Applicants must present all appropriate documentation. This includes passports, identity cards, copies of transcripts, and diplomas. The program will be directed in English and it is important that applicants have a decent understanding of the English language. International applicants will be asked to provide evidence of proficiency in the English language. Applicants are encouraged though not mandated to learn the Italian language. All previous academic research publications will be taken into consideration to assert a candidate academic merit. Applicants will be chosen for these PhD scholarships regardless of age, nationality, or gender as long as they meet all requirements and continue to meet all the requirements throughout the duration of the scholarship. The applicant must provide at least two letters of recommendation from academic scholars in the doctoral research field.
How to Apply
Applications for the school as well as the scholarships have to be done online through the university website. Applicants must have been offered a place to study at the university before they will be considered for the scholarships. All the relative documents and paperwork needs to be included in PDF files.
Applications will be reviewed by the research scholarship committee at the university to determine if the applicant meets all terms and conditions as well as shows both financial need and academic merit. The committee will shortlist applicants and email them to set up interviews.
These PhD scholarships are highly competitive. Interviews will be arranged for prospective candidates. Domestic students will be required to conduct their interviews face to face while international students must make accommodations to have their interviews done over video calls.
