The University

Falmouth University is a multi-art university rooted in Falmouth, Cornwall, England. The university was established in 1902 under the name Falmouth School of Art. In 2008 the college merged with Dartington College which greatly improved the range of courses the school had to offer. In 2012 the university was finally approved for university status. Since the universities establishment in 1902 the school has thrived to further the ambitions of its students as well as become one of the top art universities in the world.

PhD Research Studentships

Falmouth University is pleased to announce a limited amount of PhD scholarships in research areas such as design, art, media, performance and writing. These PhD scholarships or Research Studentships are available on a competitive, academic merit basis.

Value

The PhD Research Studentships are broken down into different PhD scholarships. These PhD scholarships will waive tuition fees and in some cases award a bursary worth £5,000 annually.

Duration

For domestic candidates the award can be accepted as a three year full time award or as a four year part time award. International applicants are only allowed to apply for full time status.

Eligibility: The applicant must have strong evidence of academic excellence. The applicant must present a compelling and clear proposal for research that relates to Falmouth University and the university’s research themes. The applicant must show evidence of English language proficiency. For applicants where English is not their first language are required to present test scores showing either having obtained higher than a 7.0+ on the IELTS with a minimum score of 7 in writing. Scores from the TOEFL Internet Based Test will also be accepted with a minimum score of 100 and an additional score of 24 or higher for the writing part. Applicants should also understand that having previously lived or studied in an English speaking country does not establish sufficient proof of English language proficiency. The applicant must have accepted an offer to study at Falmouth University. The applicant may be of international student status or domestic student status. International students must be in compliance with the terms of their visas at all times. The applicant are encouraged to present two letters of recommendation from academic scholarships that the applicant has studied under. The applicants must have a research proposal that they are prepared to present for consideration.

How to Apply

Applicants must all fill out a successful application for enrollment to Falmouth University. Applicants must have accepted a place of study with the university before they will be considered for a scholarship.

This includes past academic transcripts, copies of degrees, research proposals, and statements indicating why the applicant believes that they would be a good fit for the program.
