Postgraduate Research Scholarships at James Cook University for 2014-15

The James Cook University also referred to as the JCU is a public university located in Queensland, Australia. The university is the second university in Queensland and is primarily a research and teaching university. The university derives its name from historical British captain James Cook. The university is one of the leading universities in:

The PhD Scholarships: Postgraduate Research Scholarship

JCU Postgraduate Research Scholarship: the JCU Postgraduate Research Scholarship is available for international applicants that demonstrate outstanding research potential and academic merit.

  • Award: These PhD scholarships cover the cost of tuition as well as provides an annual living allowance in the amount of $25,392 for full time students and $12,696 for part time students. Additional grants are available for applicants in need of relocation help. These additional grants must be approved on a case by case basis through the university.
  • Duration: The maximum duration of these PhD scholarships is for three years. A maximum duration of two years is applied when these scholarships are applied to Master’s programs.
  • Eligibility:

o   The applicant must have a strong academic history and must have at least obtained a bachelor’s degree

o   The applicant must be enrolled in full time studies at the James Cook University unless they have been approved for part time studies.

o   The applicant may not have been awarded other Australian Government funded scholarships excluding the International Postgraduate Research Scholarship within a period of six months before being awarded the JCU Postgraduate Research Scholarship.

The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship: the International Postgraduate Research Scholarship or IPRS is intended for international applicants that are participating in full time studies. The IPRS is designed to attract highly motivated and academically superb international applicants to enrich the steady growing research efforts.

  • Award: These PhD scholarships award full tuition fees as well as provides health insurance for applicants and their dependents. In addition, this PhD scholarships awards an annual living allowance of $25,392.
  • Duration: The duration of these PhD scholarships is for a tenure of three years. The duration of these scholarships when applied to master degree programs is two years.
  • Eligibility:

o   The applicant must be of international student status

o   The applicant must be in compliance with the terms of their visas at all times during the duration of their program.

o   The applicant must be undertaking full time studies for the first time at the James Cook University.

o   The applicant may not have previously been awarded an Australian Agency for International Development scholarship within a two year period before commencing the IPRS.

o   The applicant may not be receiving any other scholarship where tuition fees are waived.

o   The applicant must seek university permission before trying to undertake part time work. A maximum of eight hours is allowed for work undertaken outside of the university.

o   The applicant must maintain academic success otherwise their scholarship will be subjected to termination at any time.
