The PhD Scholarships

The University of Bristol is pleased to announce the availability of 19 PhD scholarships. These 19 PhD scholarships are broken down into three different categories.

Theory and Modelling in Chemical Science Program/Centre of Doctoral Training

Description: The first category consists of 16 out of 19 of these PhD scholarships. These PhD scholarships are offered through the Theory and Modelling in Chemical Science program offered at the Centre of Doctoral Training which is a shared research center between the Universities of Bristol, Southampton, and Oxford.

Research Interest: Research interests of the centre include:

  • Exploring Chemical Reaction Mechanisms
  • Fundamental Electronic Structure, Quantum Theory, and Dynamics
  • Simulating of Materials, Soft Matter, and Additional Biological Systems

Award: These PhD scholarships cover the domestic tuition fees as well as offer a stipend of £13,726 annually. International applicants are eligible to apply if they can demonstrate the ability to pay the difference between domestic and international tuition fees.

Duration: These PhD scholarships are funded for up to four years.

Department of Mechanical Engineering

Description: The next two PhD scholarships are offered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering. These two PhD scholarships are linked to two research projects.

Research Interests: The research projects are:

  • Flow and Noise Control by Using Porous Materials
  • Aerodynamics and Aeroacoustics Analysis of the Morphing Structure.

Award: These PhD scholarships cover the domestic tuition fees as well as offer a stipend of £13,726 annually. International applicants are eligible to apply if they can demonstrate the ability to pay the difference between domestic and international tuition fees.

Duration: These PhD scholarships last for three and a half years.

Department of Biological Sciences

Description: The final PhD scholarships is delivered by the Department of Biological Sciences.

Research Interest: This PhD scholarship is linked to the research project: Behavior and Sensory Ecology.

Award: These PhD scholarships cover the domestic tuition fees as well as offer a stipend of £13,726 annually. International applicants are eligible to apply if they can demonstrate the ability to pay the difference between domestic and international tuition fees.

Duration: These PhD scholarships last for three and a half years.

Requirements

  • The applicant must have an upper second class or first class honours degree in a relative subject to the research project they are applying for.
  • The applicant must be able to effectively communicate. Applicants who do not speak English as their first language are required to submit language assessment scores.
  • The applicant must compose a research proposal with summaries and outlines for their research purposes.
  • The applicant must provide at least two references
  • The applicant must submit a personal statement or essay explaining their reasons for undertaking the program that they chose.

Deadline: These applications are accepted throughout the year.
