20 Fully Funded International PhD Scholarships at Loughborough University UK for 2014-15

The University

Loughborough University is a public research university situated in Loughborough, Lancashire, England. The university was established by Royal Charter in 1966 but was originally founded in 1909 as a technical institute. The Loughborough University sees an annual enrollment of over 16,000 students.

The PhD Scholarships

The Loughborough University is pleased to announce the availability of 20 different PhD scholarships. The PhD scholarships are broken down into two groups the first is 15 PhD scholarships from the EPSRC Center for Doctorate Training in Embedded Intelligence and the other five are research project scholarships offered through the Loughborough University’s graduate school.

The First 15: EPSRC Center for Doctorate Training in Embedded Intelligence

Description: The EPSRC Center for Doctorate Training in Embedded Intelligence is offering 15 PhD scholarships for qualified applicants. Embedded Intelligence is the ability of a process, service, or product to reflect its personal operational performances and experiences. It uses sensors and other means of collecting data in order to product design issues, performance, lifetime, and work to increase the delivery and customer and market acceptance and satisfaction.

Award: These scholarships award individuals with a stipend in the amount of £16,726 annually with an additional £10,000 annually for personal allowances.

Duration: These PhD scholarships last for a duration of four years.

Deadline: The deadline for these PhD scholarships is the 31st of July.

The Final Five: Loughborough University’s Graduate School

Description: The five additional PhD scholarships are research project based scholarships awarded through the Graduate School at the Loughborough University. The following research projects are awarded scholarships:

  • Engineering Approaches to Reveal Patho-Physiological Statuses
  • Developing Interface Technology for Neural Prosthetic Implants
  • Developing Multi-Sensor Integration Platforms for Supporting Investigation in Exercise Trainings.
  • Multifunctional Chip Based IN-Vitro Diagnostic Care Testing
  • Cost-Effective Manufacturing of Integrated Sensors for Sport Monitoring

Award: All of these PhD scholarships are fully funded. They offer tuition waivers for the domestic tuition rate. International applicants are welcome to apply as long as they can demonstrate their ability to cover the difference between domestic and international tuition rates. Each of these PhD scholarships offer generous stipends in the amount of £13,863 annually.

Duration: These PhD scholarships last for a duration of three years in a full time study status.

Deadline: The deadline for these last five PhD scholarships is the 10th of July.

Requirements for All PhD Scholarships

  • The applicant must have a first class or upper second class honours degree, a master’s degree, or the academic equivalent. The degree must be relevant to the subject that they are applying for.
  • The applicants must have accepted a place of study at the University.
  • International applicants who do not speak English as their first language must be willing to submit their language assessment scores. The IELTS scores are the most recognized.
  • The applicant must submit a research proposal illustrating how they plan to conduct their research. The proposal should include summaries and an outline.
  • The applicant must submit a short personal statement or personal essay illustrating why they wished to be considered for these PhD scholarships. It is important that these brief statements illustrate the intent and purpose of the applicant.
  • The applicant must provide at least two references
