The University

The University of Trento is an Italian public university located in Trento. The university specializes in research, and international relations. The university was established in 1962 as an institute for social sciences. It was the first Italian facility for sociology. In 1972, the university made the decision to expand its academic departments and opened a series of newer facilities that offered a wider variety of degree programs.

The 15 PhD Scholarships

The School of Social Sciences at the University of Trento is pleased to offer up to 15 PhD scholarships to qualifying applicants. The PhD scholarships are offered in two separate categories to applicants that meet all of the eligibility requirements.

7 PhD Scholarships: School of Social Science- Development Economics and Local Systems

The first category of PhD scholarships is seven PhD scholarships for the Development Economics and Local Systems PhD program offered at the University of Trento. These seven PhD scholarships are offered jointly with the University of Florence. The goal of this program is to help further develop knowledge and skills of:

• Training activities and research applied towards economics both in an academic sense and at business levels.
• It offers understanding of different systems in firms, private and public research centres, and national, non-governmental, and international organizations.
• Shows the impact of management evaluations and policies in regards to different projects and programs.

This PhD scholarship and PhD program is broken down into two additional categories:

1. Economics applied towards local systems
2. Developmental Economics.

Both of the above categories require an understanding of economics and behavioral dynamics in developing and developed global economies.

Award

These PhD scholarships award a waiver for tuition fees as well as a stipend to cover living expenses. These stipends can be increased up to a maximum of 50% for applicants that spend research periods studying abroad. The current annual stipend is in the amount of € 13.638,47.

Duration

The maximum duration of these PhD scholarships is three years in a full time study program at the University of Trento.

 

Eligibility:

• The degree programs are conducted in English so applicants must show proficiency in the English language both written and spoken.
• The applicant must be a student enrolled at the University of Trento in a full time PhD program associated with the School of Social Sciences as well as economics.

The deadline for these seven PhD scholarship is the 2^nd of July.

8 PhD Scholarships: School of Social Sciences- Management and Economics

The second set of PhD scholarships belongs to the Management and Economics program offered at the University of Trento. This program focuses on some of the following fields:

• Decision Science
• Human Resources
• Natural Resource Management
• Organization
• Methodologies used in Behavioral Approaches to Economics

The purpose of these programs is to help understand and adopt programs that will help predict different market dynamics and how it applies to finance, tourism, natural resources, and consumption.

Award

These PhD scholarships award a waiver for tuition fees as well as an annual stipend. The amount of the stipend is subject to change but the average amount awarded is € 13.638,47 annually. The stipend can be increased a maximum of 50% for applicants that are studying abroad.

Duration

The maximum duration for these PhD scholarships is three years in a full time study program at the University of Trento.

Eligibility:

• These programs are conducted in the English language. Applicants must show English language proficiency in both written and spoken English.
• The applicant must be enrolled as a student at the University of Trento and must be in a full time PhD program that has something to do with economics or business management.
