PhD Scholarships

Scholarship Overview: There are 18 PhD scholarships that students can take advantage of at Soton. They are open to aspiring students from any part of the world as an initiative to increase the number of postgraduate learners of the school. Soton grants scholarships to the best student applicants that can excel on their chosen field continuously throughout the duration of their courses.

Scholarship Grants: The scholarships are designed to be flexible in order to accommodate full time and part time students. Each has the ability to fully fund courses of 100 qualified students. The number of awardees receiving the £13,000 to £14,000 funding may be less depending on the quality of applicants and the willingness of non-EU students to pay overseas fees and costs.

Scholarship Requirements: Applicants interested in receiving a full funding from the university must have:

  • A minimum first degree of the discipline or its equivalent, second class honors degree with an MSc.
  • A grade C for Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency or a 6.5 in IELTS
  • Enthusiasm for undergraduate projects
  • Relevant experience relating to the field of study
  • An extensive research, laboratory and fieldwork in the study
  • Two academic references

Scholarship Deadlines

Applications are expected to be made as soon as possible. Unless otherwise stated, most of the PhD scholarships take applicants throughout the academic year.
