The PhD Scholarships: Doctoral Teaching and Research Assistants

The University of Sussex is delighted to be able to offer its potential students with a limited availability of their PhD scholarships in a variation of different degrees.

The School of Education and Social Work: Graduate Teaching Research Assistant (GTRA): the School of Education and Social Work through the University of Sussex is delighted to be able to offer their Graduate Teaching Research Assistant PhD scholarships to qualified candidates. These studentships are linked to the Centre for Teaching and Research. These PhD scholarships or assistantships offer students the ability to participate in the following activities:

  • Research and Teaching
  • Assisting the faculty with their virtual learning or e-learning environments and developments
  • Assisting with different research distributions through newsletters and helping to keep research websites updated
  • Assisting with and supporting different research seminars and being productive in community doctoral activities.
  • Assisting in research activities and literature reviews.

Theses PhD scholarships also dictates that the applicant commit at least eight hours of their week to these graduate research and teaching assistant responsibilities.

Award: These PhD scholarships or assistantships offer an annual allowance of £7000 plus covers the cost of tuition fees for the domestic tuition rate. International applicants are still encouraged to apply but must note that they are accountable for the remaining difference between domestic and international tuition rates.

Duration: The maximum duration of these assistantships is three years.

Eligibility:

  • The applicant must have accepted an offer to study or be an existing student at the University of Sussex.
  • The applicant must submit a research proposal.
  • The applicant must dedicated at least 8 hours of their week to their research or teaching assistant duties.

These GTRA’s are linked to the school’s Centre for Innovation and Research in Adult Wellbeing.

Award: These PhD scholarships or assistantships offer an annual allowance of £7000 plus covers the cost of tuition fees for the domestic tuition rate. International applicants are still encouraged to apply but must note that they are accountable for the remaining difference between domestic and international tuition rates.

Duration: The maximum duration of these assistantships is three years.

  • The applicant must accept a place of study with the university.
  • The applicant must hold a previous degree in social work or a field related to the proposed research project.
  • Must contribute at least eight hours of their week to performing their research or teaching assistant duties.
