The University

The Newcastle University is a public research university sited in Newcastle, England. The university was originally established as a College of Medicine in the 1930’s. 1963 after the Act of Parliament the King’s College became officially known as the Newcastle University. The university is considered a red brick university and holds memberships with many prestigious research groups throughout the UK. The Newcastle University welcomes a yearly enrollment of over 22,000 students.

The PhD Scholarships

Description: The Newcastle University is delighted to announce the availability of 25 PhD scholarships. These 25 PhD scholarships are intended for applicants that are wishing to conduct their research studies in the following nine main research areas:

  • Materials
  • Energy
  • Cloud Computing for Big Data
  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Synthetic Biology
  • Food Security
  • Earth Systems Engineering
  • Digital Interactions

Award

Each of these 25 PhD scholarships award applicants a stipend of£20,000 every year.

Duration

The maximum duration of these PhD scholarships is for four years. Theses scholarships are open to all applicants regardless of where they are from.

Requirements for Eligibility: Every program has its own set of guidelines. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that they check with their potential research project to ensure they are in compliance with any additional regulations. The applicant must be enrolled at the Newcastle University. The applicant may be domestic, exchange, or international student status. The applicant must show proficiency in the English language. Applicants who speak English as their second language will be required to submit TOEFL scores. The applicant will have to compose a research proposal as well as choose to work on one of the existing research projects. The applicant will have to demonstrate how they believe they can make a positive contribution to the ongoing research. The applicant must provide at least two letters of recommendation from previous scholars. Applicants with Visa’s must be in compliance with the terms of their visas for the full duration of their studies at Newcastle University.

Deadline

The deadline for theses PhD scholarships is the 18th of August. Awards may be awarded earlier to applicants that complete the applications early.
