The University of Cambridge is a public research university located in Cambridge, England. The university was established in 1209 which makes it one of the top three oldest universities still in operation in the world. The University of Cambridge is composed of six different schools, over 31 different partner colleges, and offers over 100 academic departments to study from. The school enrolls over 18,000 students annually.
PhD Scholarships: Postgraduate Research Projects
There are many available options for funding at the University of Cambridge including PhD scholarships, studentships, as well as a large number of alternative funding means. Below we are going to review some of the University of Cambridge’s ongoing research projects:
The Department of Genetics through the University of Cambridge is pleased to offer a limited number of studentships to individuals wishing to commence study on one of the following subjects
o Stem cells and Epigenetic Programme
o Epigenetic Control of Genome Functions
o Genomic Imprinting in Development of Diseases
Both domestic and international students are welcome to apply.
o Funding: There are many different foundations and trusts that provide funding for these projects. Funding will be awarded to the highest qualifying candidate.
o Duration: The maximum duration of these studentships is three years.
o Deadline: The deadlines for these studentships are the 30th of June, the 30th of September, or the 31st of December.
The Department of Plant Science through the University of Cambridge is pleased to offer a limited number of PhD studentships to individuals wishing to participate in the following research projects:
o The MYB/bHLH/WDR complex and the evolution of cellular diversity in the multicellular green lineage – There is not a deadline for this doctoral research project.
o Soil carbon dynamic in an elevated CO2 world- This research project will be focusing on the impact of pollution and increased litter in soil of tropical rain forests in Panama. Applicants that become a part of this project are eligible to apply for the NERC DTP Research Studentship.
o RNA-directed DNA Methylation and Silencing Hotspots- this research project focuses on testing whether or not DNA methylations can be used as a sufficient means of silencing hotspot activity. There is not a deadline for applications.
o Sugar Regulation of a Circadian Clock- this research project covers how sugars can affect and regulate the circadian clock. There is no deadline for these project applications.
o Mathematical Modelling of a Circadian Ca2+ Network- this research project uses mathematic models to help to show the biological mechanisms and the roles they provide in daily timing. This project serves as a unique opportunity for mathematic graduates to make a smooth transition over to system biology. There is no deadline for these applications.
The Departments of Biochemistry and Medicine through the University of Cambridge is pleased to offer up to 3 PhD scholarships that are funded through the Strategic Research Centre Award from The Cystic Fibrosis Trust UK. The research area that will be studied is the growth of nontuberculous mycobacterium abscesses. Theses PhD scholarships will go towards funding for students that are dedicated to understanding the different pathogens and cellular biology involved in identifying and treating mycobacterium abscesses.
o Value: These PhD scholarships cover domestic tuition fees
o Duration: for a maximum of three years with a possible extension into a fourth year of study. International applicants are also welcome to apply.
