The University

The University of Liverpool is a public red brick university located within Liverpool, England. The university was originally founded in 1881 as a university college and it wasn’t until 1903 that it was recognized as the University of Liverpool. The school sees an annual enrollment of over 21,000 applicants.

The PhD Scholarships

The University of Liverpool is pleased to offer six different PhD scholarships panning a variety of different departments.

The Departments

The following departments are offering the six fully funded PhD scholarships to qualified applicants:

1. Institute of Translational Medicine: Understanding Drug Reactions: The deadline for this project is the 31^st of July
2. Institute of Translational Medicine: Understanding MAP4k3 Regulation and Function within Cancer: the deadline for this project is the 31^st of July.
3. Institute of Integrative Biology: Understanding Extracellular Matrix: There is not a deadline for this scholarship.
4. Institute of Ageing and Chronic Diseases: Understanding CCN2 Gene: The deadline is the 25^th of July.
5. Faculty of Science and Engineering: Analysis of Structural Thermoelectric Coolers: No deadline
6. Departments of Physics: CZTS Based Solar Cells: The deadline is 30^th of July.

Award

Each of the above named PhD scholarships offer PhD scholarships that are fully funded. This means that the scholarship pays for tuition at the domestic student tuition rate as well as allows for a generous stipend in the amount of £13,863 to be paid annually. International applicants are still eligible for consideration if they can demonstrate their ability to cover the difference between the domestic and the international tuition rate.

Duration

These PhD scholarships are intended to last for a maximum duration of three years in a full time study session.

Requirements:

• The applicant must have obtained a first class or upper second class degree with honours in a subject field that closely relates to the research topic they are wishing to pursue.
• International applicants who do not speak English as their first language are required to submit language assessment scores. The most commonly acceptable test for this is the IELTS. Applicants must score between 5.5 and 6.5 to be eligible
• The applicant must provide at least two academic references.
• The applicant is required to conduct a short personal statement or personal essay that illustrates the importance of this program to them as well as their motivations for joining the program. It should also illustrate how they believe they will be able to positively contribute to the project as a whole.
• The applicant must submit a research proposal for consideration. The proposal should clearly show where the applicant has experienced previous work or research experience as well as provide an outline detailing how they prospect their doctoral studies to go.
• Each of these PhD scholarships have their own additional guidelines and requirements as well as deadlines. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that they are in compliance with the rules and regulations for both the university as well as the individual research project they are wishing to be considered for.
